 Abstract:  William McKinley was born in Niles, Ohio, served in the American Civil War, and practiced law in Canton, Ohio, where he served as prosecuting attorney for Stark County 1869-1871. In 1876, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives. He was Governor of Ohio 1891-1896. First elected President of the United States in 1896, he was reelected in 1900. He was assassinated in September 1901. The collection consists of editors' copies and page proofs of McKinley's speeches as President, as well as an index for the book Speeches and Addresses of William McKinley. This collection also includes a small number of speeches made by McKinley's Executive Cabinet and some speeches he made as a Representative of Ohio to the United States Congress.

 Abstract:  William McKinley (1843-1901) was the 25th president of the United States. He was shot on 6 September, 1901 and died eight days later. During the American Civil War he was Commissary Sergeant with the 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment. His brother-in-law, Andrew J. Duncan also served during the Civil War. The collection consists of photographs, general correspondence, family papers, financial papers, Civil War records of McKinley and A. J. Duncan, and letters of condolence and other material relating to McKinley's death in 1901.

 Abstract:  Daniel May (1819-1888) was a Poland, Ohio druggist and bookseller. He married the sister of President William McKinley. The collection consists of diaries of Daniel May and his son Daniel Todd May, miscellaneous papers, receipts, newspaper clippings, and stories by Alfred May based on the diaries of Daniel May. Topics of the diary entries include William McKinley, and events in Poland, Ohio.

 Abstract:  John Patterson Green (1845-1940) was a Cleveland, Ohio, lawyer, justice of the peace (1873-1882), Ohio state congressman (1882-1892), state senator (1892-1896), and United States Postage Stamp Agent. He was a powerful Republican campaign orator and was influential in William McKinley's 1896 presidential campaign. He was the first African American to be elected to public office in Cleveland, Ohio. The collection consists of correspondence, legal papers, speeches, financial accounts, receipts, newspaper clippings, invitations, programs and other papers.
